Oral health therapists have a strong preventative focus and help to promote positive oral health. Tiffany, our inhouse Oral Health Therapist, is a vital part of our team at Soothing Care Dental. She is a registered oral health practitioner who provides primary oral care for both children and adults. She graduated from the University of Sydney with a Bachelor of Oral Health in 2013 and has since been working to help improve and maintain the oral health of her patients.

We had the chance to sit down with Tiffany to learn a bit more about her role here at Soothing Care Dental.

What is the role of an oral health therapist within the dental team?

An oral health therapist is a supportive clinician who maintains the oral health of the patient. At Soothing Care Dental, we do this by providing patient cleans with the Airflow System, providing care for gum disease, simple adult restorations, and paediatric care. Above all, we have an interest in improving everyone’s oral hygiene and health.

So, what are the benefits of seeing your oral health therapist regularly?

There are many benefits that come with frequent visits, some that come to mind include:

• Maintaining a healthy relationship with dentistry,
• Ensuring that we can examine your oral health every six months due to your lifestyle and habit changes, and
• Making sure that you are on the right track in maintaining good oral health.

What can you expect during your visit?

Every patient that visits me is first greeted with a smile, and then we get to work. I will start of with an examination, and a photoshoot of your teeth. You will then have a dental spa with the EMS Airflow System. Afterwards, I will curate a personalised oral hygiene instruction guide for you to follow. Depending on your needs, you may need to also see a specialised dentist during your visit, however we will discuss this with you prior.

You have mentioned the Airflow System, can you tell us a more about it?

The Airflow System is a new technology that gently cleans your teeth with air, power, and water. Due to its innovative technology, it can remove stains and plarc, and get into crevices that the ultra-sonic cannot get into. Therefore, minimising the use of the ultra-sonic, which a lot of patients dread during their visit. The Airflow System is ideal for patients who experience tooth sensitivity as it provides a gentle clean with great results.

An appointment with an oral health therapist is a great way to stay on track of your own, or your child’s oral health. Through regular visits, you will Avoid any dental concerns growing into something more critical, and learning more about an overall, holistic approach in maintaining your dental health.
