WELCOME TO SOOTHING CARE DENTAL

“A healthy smile is the universal welcome!” Healthy gums are a must for a healthy smile. The gums in our mouth are the ones that protect the underlying connective tissues that secure the base of teeth. Gum disease is an inflammatory condition of the gum line that may progress to affect the other structures like the jawbone that holds the tooth if not consulted with dentist Balmain. There are three stages of gum disease including:

  1. Gingivitis
  2. Periodontitis
  3. Advanced periodontitis

The order is from the least to most severe. At the extreme, they can lead to tooth loss and other severe medical conditions.

What are the Symptoms of Gum Disease?

Lately, you noticed blood stains in the sink while brushing your teeth, but none of your teeth is hurting. So there is nothing to be concerned about, Right? Wrong!

Bleeding gums or teeth is the first indication of the underlying gum disease. So, bleeding should never be ignored. You must talk to your Balmain dentist with the first sign you face. Here are some common signs that may indicate gum disease.

  • Swollen, tender or red gums
  • Persistent bad breathe
  • Gums that easily bleed while flossing and brushing
  • Loosened teeth
  • Sharp pain while chewing food
  • Visible pus surrounding the teeth
  • Sensitivity

How is Gum Diseases Diagnosed?

A sticky colourless film containing bacteria that forms on the teeth cause gum disease. This film formed has to be cleaned on a regular basis by brushing. When they are not cleaned, they may harden into tartar which requires professional cleaning as brushing and flossing cannot remove them.

If left unnoticed, the plaque bacteria may infect the teeth and gum structures and eventually will spread infecting gum tissues and jawbones.

Gingivitis:

This is the primary stage of gum disease. The dental plaque formed in the gum line causes gingivitis. It is characterised by some bleeding, redness or swelling of gums. However, gum disease at this stage can be reversed as the bone, and connective tissues are not affected.

Periodontitis:

At this stage, the bones and fibres are irreversibly damaged. The gums form a pocket that allows the plaque to penetrate below the gum line. Improved oral hygiene and professional treatment at the dental clinic Balmain can prevent further damage.

Advanced Periodontitis:

This is the advanced stage of periodontal disease. The bones and fibres are destroyed as a result, and the tooth may loosen and eventually fall.

Untreated gum disease may be associated with diabetes and heart diseases. Luckily, gum disease can be prevented with the following tips.
